Other People's Stupid things

3-23-10

Since I have thoroughly embarrassed myself by telling you all my stupid secrets, I will now proceed to make fun of others. I have seen and heard many a stupid thing in my life. But this first anecdote is by far my favorite. As told to me by a friend several years ago, I will put the story below. The only thing I will change are the names to protect the innocent and the stupid.

Bob and Jane were avid outdoors people. They enjoyed water skiing, tennis, golf, hiking, and anything in nature's playground. For this occasion, they had rented a houseboat for a long weekend excursion. It was mid-July and very hot out on the lake. On the first day of their vacation, Bob had failed to properly apply sunscreen and had a red ring around his body just above his shorts line. After lamenting his now uneven tan line, he came up with a solution. For the second day of outdoor fun, before leaving the interior of the boat, Bob decided to strip down naked so as to not have a spotty tan line from a misapplication. Jane was the attentive wife and diligently rubbed the sunscreen on all areas to prevent any red rings. She then took her towel and proceeded out the door to soak up the sun on the roof of the boat. She only got three steps out the door when she heard, "OH GOSH!!!" and turned to see her naked husband running back into the boat. Apparently he had forgotten that he was stark naked and was just following Jane out onto the roof of the boat. It wouldn't have been so bad if there hadn't been other boats docked in very visible range. After Jane picked herself up off the floor of the boat from her hysterics of laughter, she checked around to see if Bob had been seen streaking on their boat. There were a few skiers out in the morning water but it was doubtful that they were looking towards Bob and Jane. Needless to say, Bob put on his shorts and they went on about their day. Every once in awhile Jane would giggle and remember the sound of her husband realizing he was completely naked. It will always bring a smile to her face.

And to mine. If you knew Bob, you would laugh hard too.

I hope that you had fun laughing at Jane and Bob. The next story could be about you.

Hope you have a blessed evening and thanked for reading my blog.

Stupid Things #2

3-22-10

Don't be shocked. I know this is the second day in a row that I am blogging. Try and control your excitement and shock.

In continuing my story from yesterday, I must tell you another stupid thing I have done. Ok. Control your shock again. As hard as it was to believe that I did anything stupid, can you believe that I would do more than one stupid thing? Also try to repress your laughter. It hurts my feelings a little.

So, on to Stupid People Tricks #2...

My loving husband surprised me on our anniversary weekend with a ski trip to Maggie Valley. We had a wonderful trip that included skiing and relaxing. There was also a hot tub that we soaked in after a full day of skiing. As much as I love skiing and hot tubs all these activities tend to make the skin very dry. So after I hopped in the shower, I slathered on some lotion to soothe my crackling skin. Later on that day I noticed some red welts popping up on my inner arms. I was a little alarmed but I thought that it was a reaction to the travel lotion that I had packed. As the day wore on the patches of red on my arms began to burn and grow larger. By the end of the night I also had splotches on my legs that were burning as well.

When I showed my husband, he was appalled by the spots and was ready to take me to the hospital. He demanded to see what foreign product had created this massive outbreak on my body. I grabbed the travel lotion bottle and read to him the outside that said "extra moisturizing" and at the bottom in teeny tiny print it said "body wash." WHAT!!!! The body wash got me again. I had put soap all over me and left it on all day!!!!!!! I am so stupid. I immediately washed it off and applied real lotion and began the healing process. Luckily within the week my skin was back to normal and my ego was only slightly worse for the wear.

I leave you with these thoughts. Beware the body wash.

Have a blessed evening and thanks for reading my blog.

Stupid things

3-21-10

Do you ever do stupid things? I like to pretend that I am completely perfect and that at no time in my life have I EVER done anything that resembles stupid or less than perfect. We all know that it isn't true. No one is infallible, albeit some of us are more fallible than others, but I digress.

This morning I was reflecting on some stupid things that I have done which made me feel really dumb but in time I have decided to share because well, to other people it will be hilarious. I guess I am channeling my inner Pioneer Woman, my favorite blogger, to "Keep it Real".

One of the first anedotes that came to mind was an incident that took place in the shower. No, this is not X-rated. I am usually an early riser and generally get up first thing in the morning and jump in the shower. The hot water serves to wake me up and also soothe out any sore muscles I might have. On this particular morning, I washed my hair as usual and then put in the conditioner. I leave the conditioner in and wash it out after completing the other menial tasks I need to do (wash face, shave legs, etc..). After washing out the conditioner I realized that my hair was not the same smooth texture it should be. It was tangly and hard to run my fingers through. Thinking that I had not put enough conditioner in, I went through the process again. I put in the conditioner and this time got a lot into my hair and then promptly rinsed. The same result took place again. I was hesitant to get out of the shower with such a mess in my hair so I once more went to get the conditioner to put it in my hair. It is at this point I should tell you the layout of my shower.
We have a dispenser in our shower that holds our shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (soap for those of you who are boys). All of the little levers are labeled with the appropriate titles and they always remain in the same place. On this particular morning, I guess my brain was not into reading and was more about the colors. Because instead of reaching for the conditioner the third time around I reached for the same item I had put in my hair two times previously, the body wash. Yes, I had thoroughly washed my hair with body wash two times in a row and was reaching for a third time when I finally awakened to the problem. READ the label. Needless to say I was embarrassed and never told the story until now. You may think that it's no big deal but it was a very silly mistake and now can you can relentlessly retell the story and make fun of me. Please change the names to protect my status as a person who NEVER makes any stupid mistakes.

I will continue the sage of the stupid things I have done next time.

I hope that you have a blessed day and thanks for reading my blog!

Hello World!

3-2-10

Well, here it is the second day of March and I am at home because it is snowing. What is up with that? Since I am stuck home and hubby is at school I have decided to update this here blog.

So, it was October the last time I wrote here. What has happened since then? Well, Christmas, New Year's Day, Lots of traveling, birthday, Valentine's Day, and lots of SNOW!!!!!!

Here is a picture of the snow for your viewing pleasure...

This is our house at the last snow. Right now, there is as much snow in our yard. YIKES!!!!

In other news, aside from the weather, Michael and I are super busy with the repair shop. There are clarinet re-pads and Bari Sax regulations galore in the basement. I will get to those right after I finish blogging.

My thoughts for the day are not very exciting. But I figure I am just priming the pump (so to speak) for better blogs to come in the near future. I guess this blog hasn't died yet. If you are still out and about checking to see if I will ever write again, be excited!

Have a great day and thanks for reading my blog (I forget which number).

The best and worst day

10-21-09

So a few weeks ago Michael and I went to a football game. This is not an unusual occurrence as he is a band director and we are both avid football fans. But this particular game was special. Anyone who reads this knows that I am a UGA graduate and my blood bleeds red and black. Anyone who reads this probably also knows that Michael, my loving husband is not a UGA fan. A native hillbilly from the eastern most part of Tennessee, he is more a true volunteer than anyone else I know. This puts our house at odds during the year and one day in particular. That day, this year was October 10th. That very same day we went to a football game, the Georgia/Tennessee show down in Knoxville.

Being that I played in the band at UGA, I had visited the giant orange field of creamsickle colored people at least twice in my life. Michael, even though he was a native, had never made the legendary journey to his mothership of football, Neyland Stadium. We secured tickets and decided to go a few days before the big game. The anticipation had not really had time to garner speed until the morning of the game. Michael and I were giddy with excitement. I was happy to be going to see a game live and in person. Michael was beside himself with glee at getting a chance to go and see the hallowed Neyland Stadium for himself. All the way up there we were passing other fans dressed in red and black and orange. We saw flags of team spirit attached to cars and vans full of sports fans ready for the game. Truthfully I was a little afraid to go and wear my Georgia gear. I have been there before and seen what the opposing fans can be like. Despite my fears though I would NEVER wear orange.

When we got there, the challenge was finding a parking place. The people we had bought the tickets from gave us great directions and told us where the free parking was. We navigated our way around the city, got a killer spot, and started the journey to fulfill one of our dreams. The closer we got, the wider the smile got on Michael's face. He was practically running to the stadium. He didn't want to miss a minute of any announcements or pre game shows. We finally got to the correct gate at the stadium and started to walk up and around and came close to the edge where we could see the field. The feeling was electric. Michael said he felt like Rudy's dad in that movie, Rudy, the first time he got to see Notre Dame live. We approached the entryway and I started calling under my breath, "Michael...Michael...Michael" as if he were starting for the team as did Rudy in the movie. I have never seen my husband so happy. We sat in our seats and just stared around at all the sights for about 10 minutes.

All in all, the game for me kind of sucked. We lost big time and there were not many Georgia fans around us. We did sit behind the Georgia band which was nice but did little to persuade the UT fans all around us. I also got upset when the UT fans starting doing the wave when there was a UGA player down on the field. When someone is hurt, you don't do the wave. I may have gotten a little vocal about it...may have..tee hee. But I would do it all again because of the happiness I got to see in my husband. He didn't unfairly rib me and we played fair to each other most of the game. I have really never had so much fun watching a football game. I hope we get to do it every year. Only next year I hope we win :)

Have a blessed evening and thanks for reading my 33rd blog!

Miss me?

10-20-09

Ok. I know it has been too long. But did anyone really notice? I was going to quit blogging altogether but I guess I finally gave in to the urge to write again. After all that TOTY stuff I was done for. I was burnt out in my prime. I couldn't handle writing one more single word. But I guess I am over it because here I am ready to share more of my mind with you today.

So much has gone on I will have fodder for days. But for now I will share the revelation we had at the dinner table tonight. After much anticipation we decided to have a Pre-Thanksgiving Turkey dinner. I don't really know why other than the boys, Michael and David, wanted to make sure that their turkey frying skills had not gone downhill since last Thanksgiving. Therefore tonight we had a feast. We ate mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce, and of course, TURKEY!!! It was all really really good. I had picked up fresh rolls from the bakery at Ingles and was eating one when a strange thought passed through my head. And instead of just thinking it in my head, it came out, out loud. I was really relishing how awesome and fluffy the rolls were when I thought, "Wouldn't it be great if your pillows were made of rolls and then when you got hungry in the middle of the night you could just turn over and eat some of your pillow and it would taste as yummy as the roll I have tonight?" After a round of hysterical laughter, we all started naming what we would like our edible pillows to be made of. Michael said he would want his made of pizza or cheesecake. David said he wanted cereal. I thought he could have one big shredded wheat square. It reflects what we really like to eat or what would make a good pillow. What would your edible pillow be? Share with the rest of us, we all want to know.

I hope you had fun reading this tonight because I had fun writing.

Have a blessed evening and thanks for reading my 32nd blog!
